CRIMINAL
The 73B District Court processes misdemeanor cases from arraignment through sentencing and felony cases from arraignment through preliminary examination.
Misdemeanors
Misdemeanors are crimes for which the penalty does not exceed a fine of $1,000 and/or one year in jail. Failure to appear on your court date results in the issuance of a warrant for your arrest and the Secretary of State may suspend driving privileges until the matter is resolved.
-
Traffic Misdemeanors: Examples include: operating while intoxicated (OWI), driving while license suspended (DWLS), driving while license revoked, having an expired license plate, drag racing, violation of a restricted license, having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, and reckless driving. Some Traffic Misdemeanor cases may require appearance in court. Please call to inquire.
-
Non-Traffic Misdemeanors: examples include domestic violence, assault and battery, possession of marijuana or retail fraud and many other types of violations. Many non-traffic misdemeanor cases may require appearance in court. Please call to inquire.
Felonies
Felonies are crimes for which the possible penalty exceeds one year in jail. Felony cases are transferred to the Circuit Court when the case is “bound over” or when the preliminary examination is waived.
